“True Home Dreams”
The ‘True Home Dreams’ Group of companies are leaders in the production of home building products and paints and plastering services. The company was recently sued by a former employee. The claim related to the continuous contact with hazardous and toxic chemicals, which had given the employee a long term illness. The victimised employee has taken a strong case against the company which leads to a lot of negative publicity for the organisation.
Various stakeholders are now pressuring the company to set up a long-term compensation fund for other victims of these toxic chemicals. In response to the strong response of stakeholders, the top management of the ‘True Dream World’ has finalised to rule out a strategy / system for managing these kinds of situations and a procedure to compensate the victims.
You have been appointed as an external specialist and delegated the responsibility of managing knowledge and information in relation to:
- Obtaining and analysing information and knowledge on identified business issues;
- Take a decision about the amount of funds required to establish a long-term fund;
- Disseminate information in the organisation
After reading the above ‘True Home Dreams’ case study, complete the following Tasks 1, 2 and 3 on the following pages.

Obtain and analyse information & knowledge relevant to business issues
- Prepare a report and describe the identified business issue, and explain how you will review staff and customer feedback and various performance control systems, in analysing the identified issue. (10 Marks)
- Explain what type of information would be required to reach the decision of compensation and mention a few sources to gather reliable information. (10 Marks)
- Describe how you will test the gathered information on the basis of reliability and validity and reject it where appropriate. (10 Marks)
- Check through various formal and informal networks about any work practices/corporate knowledge that has not formalised in the company’s procedures and review appropriately. (10 Marks)

- Describe how you will develop a risk management plan to determine the acceptable courses of action. (10 Marks)
- Mention various quantitative methods that you would use to make a decision related to victim compensation. (10 Marks)
- Describe the consultation from other specialist and relevant groups and individuals from the organisation, ensuring decisions are taken by all delegated authorities and in accordance with ‘true home dream’ guidelines and procedures. (10 Marks)
- How will you ensure that decisions taken on the victim’s compensation are consistent with the organisational values, objectives and standards and is timely taken? (10 Marks)
