Select a cartoon that highlights a current social, political, environmental, or other issue facing our community, state, nation, or world .  Write a paragraph analyzing its purpose and the speaker’s techniques for achieving that purpose (see the Rosa Parks sample we discussed). Cartoon attached.

Paragraph should represent climate change perspective. Please follow example format.

Example of what paragraph should look like: In this visual published in The Washington Post, speaker Tom Toles, a respected and award winning political cartoonist, pays tribute to Rosa Parks, upon her death in 2005. Toles honors Parks’ contribution to the movement for civil rights in America by sketching the elderly Parks, a devout Christian, wearing her trademark overcoat and purse as she stands before St. Peter at the gates of Heaven. The caption bubble above St. Peter’s head announces, “Rosa Parks…Yes, we have something in the front row for you…” directly referencing her iconic refusal to give up her seat on the Montgomery, Alabama, bus in 1955. In the lower right corner, in smaller print, is the caption, “We’ve been holding it open since 1955.” This caption, which can be seen both as an appeal to logic and emotion, reveals the more than 50 years that have elapsed since that monumental event, and also works to show respect for this woman’s place in the history of our country. Furthermore, it subtly criticizes how slow the country was both to achieve integration and appreciation of our nation’s diversity.
