Text and theories literature essay

you must write about either T. S. Eliot The Waste Lane. In this assignment you will demonstrate your understanding of the theories studied by discussing them in relation to a text. This task gives you the freedom to write about what you find interesting, but your essay should do the following: Discuss the essays/extracts by Roland Barthes called ‘ the death of the author’ and Wolfgang Isers work called ‘ interaction between text and reader’. Include some references from  Barry, P. (1995) ‘Structuralism’. In Beginning Theory: An Introduction to Literary and Cultural Theory. Manchester: Manchester University Press, pp. 39–60.  Bennet, A. and Royle, N. (3rd ed., 2004) ‘The Author’. In An Introduction to Literature, Criticism and Theory. Harlow: Longman, pp. 18-26.  Have challenged your own assumptions about authors. Be beginning to understand Barthes’ argument and finding your own response to it.  Be able to discuss Barthes argument with a literary text (The Waste Land). Offer close sustained reading on the waste land and show impeccable knowledge on all 3 text.
