Research Outline-Kingdom of Benin
Paper on African art with a discussion of the art of the Kingdom of Benin. Using examples of art from the readings, describe the unique features of Benin art. How does the subject matter and materials used reflect the powerful military, economic and political status of Benin? For example, the famous bronze plaques from the palace at Benin at described in your online readings. What does the subject matter, such as depictions of Oba and horses, of these plaques tell us about Benin prior to European contact? If you select a work of art created after European contact, how was the subject matter influenced by European images and culture? Please don’t forget to describe the subject matter and material (s) used to create the work of art you discuss. You may also find a review of the art vocabulary helpful for this assignment.
Write an essay on the discussion post. You should develop your ideas by conducting research on your topic. You will be using the forums to discuss your ideas pertaining to the project.
Please make sure to include the following criteria in your project:
