Introduction to Crowd and Public Safety Management-Practical Report Paper on Stadium and Crowd management-Introduction to Crowd and Public Safety Management

The report MUST be comprehensive MUST highlight and detail ALL the expected
characteristics of the task, alongside the justification for them in the context of
the United Arab Emirates and the visiting crowd.
For example, when investigating the many crowd characteristics put forward by
Berlonghi (1995), you would chose and justify only those characteristics you feel would
be evident at the game. Similarly, with crowd behaviour theories, choose only those you
feel would apply in the context of the setting of the game.
As this is also a practical exercise, you are required to visit the stadium and
provide evidence that supports aspects of your project task

Task
As a result of lessons learnt in crowd science and public safety management in other
countries, you have been assigned by the Abu Dhabi government to provide a report
detailing seven (7) areas of crowd management required for consideration in the
planning the Arabian Gulf Super Cup football match to be held at the Mohammed Bin
Zayed Stadium, between reigning League champions Al Ain and President’s Cup
winners Al Ahli. The report will include specific areas detailing:
1. Crowd Management Basics
2. Health Risks in a Crowd
3. Crowd Density
4. Types of Crowd
5. Crowd Characteristics (Berlonghi 1995)
6. Crowd Behaviour theories
7. Socio-technical Systems (STS) theory

A number of themes and theories have been covered during the latter part of the
session that relate to crowd and public safety management in the context of managing
risk. The use of case studies, literature, theories, media examples, and discussion has
highlighted the need for a structured and organized framework of operations to deal with
an array of crowd type and dynamic in order to ensure a safe public environment.
For example, several areas have been discussed that illustrate key points significantly
related to effective planning and implementation of crowd and public safety
management strategies. These include:
1. Defining Criteria of a Crowd
2. Crowd Management Basics
3. Health Risks in a Crowd
4. Crowd Density
5. Types of Crowd
6. Crowd Characteristics (Berlonghi 1995)
7. Crowd Behaviour theories
8. Socio-technical Systems (STS) theory
