BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Britain recently voted to leave the European Union (EU). The EU was created, in part, to better enable participating countries to participate and prosper in the global marketplace. What would make the British citizens decide to leave the EU?
PROMPT
You will be working in a group of two or three students, as assigned by the instructor, to critically analyze the political and economic factors that influenced the British to vote to leave the EU and identify three reasons why the vote to leave the EU was or was not the best decision. Your instructor will divide the groups into “pro-exit” and “remain in EU.” Each student in the group should develop three reasons, supported by scholarly research, to defend your group’s assigned position on whether the decision to leave the EU was a good one or a bad one.
Tasks:
Individually, you will compose three main talking points for your position on whether the decision to leave was a good decision or a bad decision. Your job is to develop three reasons, supported by scholarly research, to defend your assigned position on whether the EU should have left or stayed. Once you have developed your three points, you will post them to the Group Assignment Page. This will be done no later than Thursday.
By Sunday you will upload to the Group Assignment Page, a MS Word document with your peer’s three points and your critical responses (to each of the three points). Your response should utilize scholarly-level research and critical analysis to explain to your peer, tactfully, why their three main talking points are flawed.
Example for format for peer response:
“Peer – Britain should leave because their GDP has shrunk 12% since they joined the EU (Author, YYYY)
Your response – While GDP has shrunk 12%, that number is much smaller than similarly developed nations outside the EU, such as Japan, where the GDP has shrunk by 21% over the same period (Author 2, YYYY).” Note: This is a fictitious example.
Your main talking points and your critical response to your peers should be 2-3 pages long with a minimum of two references in a double-spaced document using 12 pt. Times New Roman font, utilizing APA format.
