Assignment Objective: Assess various leadership styles. Assignment Description: In an essay format, students will complete the following: 1. Complete an online self-assessment quiz that helps you identify your individual leadership style; 2. Compare and contrast the style identified in the self-assessment quiz against two other styles as identified in the course text and/or external research; 3. Provide comparative examples of public leaders who align with each of the three styles identified and list specific examples to justify the choice. Step #1: You must begin this assignment by completing a leadership style quiz. The quiz was designed by Kurt Lewin and seeks to help you identify which leadership style that most closely aligns with your approach to leadership. PLEASE NOTE: there are a number of leadership styles. The completion of this non-graded quiz should by no means be considered as the only leadership styles available. Additional research will yield other leadership styles outside of the ones identified in this short non-graded quiz or the course text. Once you have taken the quiz, you should place a (screen shot) copy of your results at the end of your essay paper. The non-graded leadership style quiz can be accessed HERE. Step #2: Once you have completed the leadership style quiz, you are now ready to begin completing the essay. Your essay should successfully cover the following points: A comparison and contrast of the leadership style identified in the non-graded leadership quiz you should have completed, against two (2) other leadership styles. Specific examples of public leaders who you believe represent each of the three leadership styles identified in your paper. In completing this essay, be mindful that your work MUST be well researched. This assignment is specifically asking you to explain through your research how the leaders identified link to the leadership styles you are discussing in your work. For example: If I wanted to talk about an ‘Entrepreneurial Leader’ as identified in the text, I might identify Oprah Winfrey as an entrepreneurial leader. Examples I might cite would include the impact she has had on the introduction, launch or advancing of the television careers of Dr. Phil, Dr. OZ, Nate Berkus, and Rachael Ray. I would definitely talk about how she took control over her talk show and launched it into a magazine, and other entrepreneurial endeavors, including her OWN television network. There is verifiable research available that could be used to support my essay if this was a choice I was to make in completing the essay.
