Assessment : Organisational Diagnostic paper
The first assignment requires you to identify and diagnose an adaptive leadership challenge currently
being faced by your organization. In identifying and diagnosing the challenge, distinguish between its
technical and adaptive aspects (1,500 words)

Marking criteria for individual papers:
1 Clarity on choice of issue – why it is adaptive?
2 Clear distinction between technical and adaptive components (and note where they overlap)
3 While this paper does not ask for a solution to the issue. The best responses will diagnose the
issue so that it is ready to be solved. This means thinking deeply about why there is an issue,
and explaining clearly both the background and foreground to it.
4 Presentation, grammar, referencing (Harvard preferred, but any standard referencing system is
fine, as long as it is used consistently and accurately) etc.
This is not an academic “research paper” in which we would expect greater engagement with
academic literature to complete the assignment. Here the challenge is to think deeply about the issue
you’ve chosen, and diagnose the issue clearly, using the framework discussed in class. You will use
some references particularly to provide information and evidence about the issue you examine. But
we’re more concerned about the quality of thinking than the quality of research for this assessment
item.
