Database for Management Information Syste

Introduction: As the newly appointed LAN support manager for a major manufacturing company, Hilux Textile, you decided to establish a database of PC users working for Hilux Textile. This database includes hardware and software configurations of all users’ PCs. The database will also incorporate fault tracking capabilities. The database is to be named PCUsers.

WARNING: Students must do their own work. If any part of this project is plagiarized,

students will receive no credit for this project.

Project Phases: The project will have three phases with clear timelines.

Phase I: Database Design

  1. Use the following fields to create PCUsers database tables. (8 tables)

UserFirstName

VendorCode

DepartmentName

PurchaseDate

Type

  1. Choose correct data types and sizes.
  2. Select primary and foreign keys.

Phase II: Forms and Data Entry

  1. Enter you own data into the tables, ensuring that each table contains at least 10 records.
  2. Create a data entry form for each table. When each of these forms are opened, they should go to a blank form but allow the user to edit existing records.
  3. An updatable Department form with User subform. This form/subform should allow update to both the Department and User tables.

Phase III: Query Design

Create the following queries:

(The bolded names denote the query specified in that point.)

  1. A query (query1) which gives the total number of faults by department.
  2. A query (query2) which allows the user to select a particular Software Code then displays the details of the users which run that software and the hardware details for the PC’s that they use.
  3. A query (query3) which lists the software usage by department. (How many people in each department use each of the software packages)
  4. A query (query4) the lists the user(s) that report the most number of the faults.
  5. A query (query5) that lists the number of faults of each type that were fixed within a given date range.
  6. A query (query6) that displays the average time between reporting and fixing a problem for all reported problems that have been fixed.

Create the following reports:

(The bolded names denote the report specified in that point.)

  1. A report (report1) which lists the hardware faults by department for the past 12 months. (If you need to create a query for this report, call it qreport1)
  2. A report (report2) which gives detailed information about the hardware faults for the past 12 months. (If you need to create a query for this report call it qreport2)
  3. A report (report3) which gives a list of all users in the database along with the hardware and software used on their PC. (If you need to create a query for this report call it qreport3) (Note that this report should contain appropriate groupings)

Switchboard: The whole system must be run from a central switchboard with underlying macros.

Additional project enhancements

Project Report: Well organized  written report with screenshots and it must be proof read before submission.

Ensure that you keep a backup copy of your project.

GROUP PROJECT ASSESSMENT

  Breakdown
Phase 1 10%
Phase 2 10%
Phase 3 10%
Group Project Total 30%
  • To get credit for each phase, each team MUST turn in the appropriate documentation at each assigned due date, even if it is incomplete.
  • Satisfactory performance in each phase is required before going on to the next phase.
  • Teams that do not meet the minimum requirements for satisfactory work will be required to revise their work before moving on to the next phase.
  • Group grades will be adjusted on an individual basis based on the input received from confidential phase evaluations and group status reports. Non-contributing students will receive a 0 on the group project.

!!! Good Luck !!!
