Important Reminders about the Final Paper The due date is (July 20) NO late papers will be accepted – NO excuses. Your final paper will not be accepted if you have not complete ALL essay assignments. Any paper with plagiarized material in it will be returned ungraded, and you will receive a zero (0) for your final paper. No do-overs. No rewrites. If you disagree with any findings, be prepared to take up your argument with the Dean of Academic Affairs. “It was an accident” is not a valid argument. We spent many weeks learning how to cite sources correctly. If you make a mistake at this point, it’s like failing the test. You get the grade you earn. Submit your paper as ONE document only – NOT 4 separate documents (cover page (if needed for APA), outline (revised to match final paper), paper, works cited/references). REMEMBER whether you are doing APA or MLA, your paper must have your specific chosen format from the beginning of the paper to the end. Papers not meeting the 8-10 page minimum requirement will be docked 10% for each page it is short. The cover page, outline and works cited/references page DO NOT count in the total page count. There are 3 instances in which your paper could be returned ungraded. They are: Plagiarism mentioned above. Your paper doesn’t utilize any of the previous research and materials discovered during the course research process. Not using the required number (6) and types of sources. Sources must include a book, periodical article, scholarly journal article, reference source, and primary research. Excessive proof reading errors: grammar, punctuation and mechanics. You take paper 1, 2, 3, & 4 and combine them into 1 whole paper in essay form, except paper 1…keep it in outline form. The essay portion of this final paper should be between 8-10 pages in essay form, PLUS the Cover Page (if applicable for APA), Abstract for APA, an Outline—mandatory for both APA and MLA (look at the notes for paper 1 below), and Works Cited(MLA) or References (APA)–these pages do not count as part of the 8-10 page count. This is the order! So how do you know if you use MLA or APA? Well that is for you to decide. I do not care which you choose, BUT the whole paper must be consistent in your choice, either MLA or APA. Paper 1 is the outline, so does that mean you just take paper 1 (the outline) and put it at the beginning of your research paper? NO! Yes, it goes at the beginning of your paper, but the outline needs to be changed to match your final paper–so please make sure you edit accordingly. An outline consists of the main points your paper will cover. If you look back at the directions for Paper 1, you will see what the outline should look like. DO NOT just copy and paste the different parts of your paper into the outline. An outline is a shorter version–think of it as the table of contents to your paper. Take paper 2, 3, and 4 and combine them into one paper that flows from beginning to end. If you wrote the previous papers correctly, you should have roughly six pages at this point. Next, you need to add any arguments you did not originally include along with any other modifications you make. Don’t forget a cohesive intro and conclusion. If you are short on page count, email me and I will give you advise on how to expand your paper. ****DO NOT USE FIRST OR SECOND PERSON IN THIS ESSAY–this means no I or you****Use only THIRD person**** Minimum requirements: 8 pages–which does NOT include the outline or Works Cited/References page or Cover Page for APA 6 sources–they can be either from the class assignments or new sources Proper formatted paper Reminders: 1. Make sure whichever citation method (MLA/APA) you choose that you follow it. Papers should be 1 inch margins on both sides plus top/bottom—Word automatically does this for you–DO NOT adjust your margins. Also, parenthetical citation requirements, date, capitalization of titles, and running header are the main differences between APA and MLA. Please do not hesitate to ask questions as they arise, for I am here for you. 2. Please do not turn your paper into me until at least July 19th as I am hesitant to grade final papers before the due date because once I do, there is no going back–no do-overs, no changes–nothing; you get the grade you earned and it’s done. I know this is a bit dramatic, but I have had people very upset with me because they did not follow directions. AGAIN please ask questions if you have them…I am here to assist you!
