Tips for writing your paper

Intro.

1. Start with a “hook” – This is anything that “hooks” your audience into reading your paper.

2. Start broad and narrow down to specific topic.

3. End with a thesis statement that includes an internal summary. (Tell them what you’re gonna tell them.)

Body

1. Your main points in your internal summary, should guide the order of your paper.

2. These points should flow in a logical order.

3. All information attained through research must be cited inside the paper using some kind of documentation (i.e. parenthetical, foot notes, etc.). This is true for direct and indirect quotes.

4. There should be a good mix of direct and indirect quotes.

Conclusion

1. Creatively summarize your body.

2. No new information should be included in your conclusion.

Citing sources

1. You must cite your source for all information used in your paper.

2. You can paraphrase or use direct quotes.

3. When paraphrasing you should introduce the information with author and publication.

4. When using a direct quote make sure to enclose it in quotation marks. If it is longer than 4 lines indent 10 spaces, single space it and write the quote without quotation marks.

5. Everything used within your paper should be clearly cited in either footnotes or a “works cited” page. The opposite is also true. If it is on your works cited page, it should also appear in the paper. All sources will be easy to identify because they will be noted somewhere inside the paper.

6. Plagiarism will result in a 0% on the paper, and you will be reported to the proper authorities at the College of Saint Mary.

General Guideline:

1-Research papers needs to be 4 -6 pages typed.

2-should consult at least 4 outside sources.

3-The paper you write will be a formal research paper, so no personal pronouns should be used.

4-paper can cite sources using MLA, Chicago Turabian or APA.

5-Paper must have a full intro, with a thesis statement, a body, and a conclusion.
