There will be two lab reports due, one for the first project (Cloning), and one for the second project (Protein). The lab reports should be in the format of a scientific paper, organized into the following sections:
1. Title: Describes concisely, adequately, and appropriately the content of the report
. 2. Abstract: This section should reference all the major aspects of carrying out the experiment and the results.
3. Introduction: This should clearly state what the purpose of the experiment is and discuss any relative background information. Hypotheses and predicted results should be clearly defined.
4. Methods: This section, written in paragraph form, should describe the methods used in the experiment(s), including all materials actually used. Note, this should not be a word for word copy of the protocols, it must be written in your own words and in past tense. It must be detailed enough to allow for replication of procedure.
5. Results: The results section is to be in paragraph form describing the results of each figure in your data section. Reference figure/table numbers within the text of the results to guide the reader to the appropriate data referred
.6. Discussion: Discuss what the results mean especially how they relate to the objective of the experiment and the purpose described in the introduction. If the results obtained are not as was expected discuss why you believe you obtained the results you did and not the anticipated results. You can speculate somewhat in this section, as long as you can back up your speculation with scientific theory.
7. Conclusions: In this section, make conclusions regarding how your data related to the overall purpose of the laboratory
.8. References: This is where you reference your citations. Failure to include this page is a failure in the lab report. Write all references and citations in American Psychological Association (APA) style.
9. Data: Each figure and table should have its own page, with a figure/table number, figure/table title, and brief explanation.
