Your Analytical Report
- Each student is expected to write a report discussing a major technical problem and introduce a research-based professional advice on how to solve this problem.
- The report must be scholarly and original. The student must demonstrate sound understanding of the format of a technical report, knowledge of purpose and audience, fluency of linguistic expression, and good technical know-how.
- Any delay in the submission of tasks or failure to follow up on teacher’s feedback will result in the loss of points.
- All submissions must have a title and date stated on the cover page.

Page 1: Cover page
This page contains
– The title of your project
– Your name and the names of your group members
– Your instructor’s name
– The date the project was submitted

Page 2: The table of contents
This page contains the sub-headings of your project and the corresponding page numbers where these sub-headings can be found
Page 3: List of figures and graphs
This page follows the same format as the table of contents. However, it does not include the subheadings in your paper. It rather includes the list of tables and graphs in your report and the corresponding page on which they can be found.
Page 4: An Abstract
This is a half a page summary of your project. In this one-paragraph summary, you identify the technical problem and summarize only the MAIN or MAJOR solutions and findings based on your research. Make sure the summary is BRIEF. If you write more than half a page, it means you wrote too much.
The Report Proper :
These pages will contain the actual write up of your research findings. Here are some important tips
- In the introduction, cover the following sections:
- Move 1: Define the subject and mention your research question
- Move 2: State the purpose
- Move 3: State the main point
- Move 4: Stress the importance
- Move 5: Offer background information
- Move 6: Forecast the organization
It is fine to be straightforward.
- Methodology: Introduce a brief description of the problem and its solution. Write one paragraph about the methodology where you discuss the steps you followed to answer your research question. Mention the types of sources you used
- The body of your research: Introduce your hypothesis. Define the problem and discuss the causes of the problem and its effects. Introduce each main idea separately and include relevant supporting details.
- Results: Summarize the results of the study
- Make an obvious transition
- Opening – summarize major results
- devote at least one paragraph to each of the major results.
- Conclusion: Discuss your results and state the recommendations
- Re-emphasize importance of study
- Look to the future
- Say thank you and offer contact information
– Make sure to use IN TEXT citations in this part of your project, for example (Richardson, 2013, p.). If you do not use in-text citations, this part will be considered as plagiarized, and you will receive a grade of zero for writing.
– As you will be using information from your SOURCES, make sure to PARAPHRASE and QUOTE. After you paraphrase (which means re-write the information and ideas from your sources in your own words), you have to cite (use in text citation). If you quote, you also use an in-text citation. Every paragraph must contain at least ONE in text citation from a source. No in-text citation means the information is plagiarized even if you paraphrase and quote. Keep quotations to a minimum (one short quotation per page). Paraphrase as much as you can.
– Use at least four different resources. Make sure to use information from a variety of sources. All the topics you were assigned are recent and there is a lot about them on the internet.

Page 10: Bibliography
This page is a full list of the information cited in the text. While you used short in-text citations in the body of your project, you will write the full information about each source here. Refer to the APA lecture notes on Blackboard for more information about how to cite in full, whether the information is from a book, magazine, or website.
Page 11 (Optional): Appendix
This page is optional and it is not mandatory. It includes any extra information that is interesting and that you came across during your research. However, you were not able to include this information in your project. In other words, this is extra interesting information about your project for your reader in case they want to read more about the topic.
